Friends of the Black Rock/High Rock- It is our purpose to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the Black Rock Desert - High Rock Canyon region for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations based on the concept of multiple use by working with the BLM and other land owners by: (1)Promoting the welfare of the Black Rock Desert and High Rock Canyon region of northwestern Nevada by educating the visiting public about "Tread Lightly" and "Leave No Trace" programs, and otherwise, in the protection and use of sensitive resources; (2)Working with government entities at all levels and private landowners to promote the public use, enjoyment, preservation, restoration, and ecological management of the Black Rock Desert and High Rock Canyon region; (3)Enlisting and training volunteers from all interests who will assist on service trips to stabilize, improve, or enhance historical resources, natural resources, or recreation opportunities; (4)Performing monitoring services and outreach programs; (5)Including and coordinating diverse interests in volunteer projects; (6)Helping to raise and provide funds for education, interpretation, including a visitor contact center(s) or other projects that are deemed appropriate.

American Red Cross- The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Safe Haven Rescue Zoo- The Safe Haven Rescue Zoo's mission is:

  • To provide lifelong care for as many animals as we can accommodate, decreasing the number that are euthanized in the U.S. each year simply because there is insufficient space in sanctuaries such as ours.
  • To rescue and rehabilitate indigenous wildlife.
  • To provide education and outreach services to youth groups, adult groups, and schools in underserved communities.
  • To develop a "green" solar-powered facility that makes environmentally-responsible use of energy and other resources.

Winnemucca Domestic Violence Shelter- The Winnemucca Domestic Violence Shelter is a new program getting individuals and families out of dangerous domestic violence situations. The shelter not only temporarily houses families, but also works with adults to receive any aid necessary to get back on their feet. This aid may include helping an individual to complete a GED or higher education program; receive job training; find childcare; qualify for federal assistance programs; go to the doctor; find therapy; understand they have options; and much more.
