Must we always teach our children with books? Let them look at the mountains and the stars up above. Let them look at the beauty of the waters and the trees and flowers on earth. They will then begin to think, and to think is the beginning of a real education.
- David Polis

Margaret Mead succinctly stated the reason AmeriCorps is effective "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." The AmeriCorps members are vital assets to any organization. AmeriCorps members are enthusiastic servers of the community and are members of your team that will be passionate about your organizations mission and goals. They can fit into positions that would otherwise not be available at your non-profit and get hands-on work accomplished. "Through grants and the dedication of members, AmeriCorps strengthens communities by mobilizing community resources. Most national service participants serve in local, community-based organizations, expanding their capacity to achieve their mission and building community involvement and support. Other ways members help nonprofit, charitable, and faith-based and community organizations include improving and expanding the quality of services and raising awareness of the organization in the community. Perhaps one of the most important roles AmeriCorps can play for your organization is the generation of volunteers. For example, each AmeriCorps member recruits and manages an average of twelve community volunteers." Through the meticulous review of performance measures and numerous research AmeriCorps has a reliable and constantly improving list of accomplishments in the areas of education, public safety, the environment, and health and human needs. Additionally, AmeriCorps ensures its effectiveness through a yearly review of the programs by the Points of Light Foundation.

How To Become A Partner

For a $6,000 cash match from your organization you will recieve a full-time AmeriCorps member for one year of service.   Why Partner with Nevada Outdoor School's AmeriCorp Program? AmeriCorps provides a world of opportunities to non-profits by helping them to increase their work force; provide direct service to the community in its areas of need; and build the capacity of the organization by recruiting volunteers, fundraising, and supporting general operations at a minimal cost to the non-profit. This year Nevada will fun 420 AmeriCorps members to provide intensive result-driven service. To hire a full-time year-long AmeriCorps member in Winnemucca through the Nevada Outdoor School's AmeriCorps State program the non-profit must demonstrate a community need that the member will address; recruit the AmeriCorps member; demonstrate that their organization has the workspace, materials, management skills, and experience necessary for the AmeriCorps member to successfully complete their service; and finally pay a cash match to support the cost of the AmeriCorps member and program. In Winnemucca the cash match for a full time member is $6,000. This match will go directly towards the program and the benefits of the AmeriCorps members. This is important because the members are serving our communities while only receiving a living stipend. In order to ensure the AmeriCorps members can successfully and enjoyably complete the year of service Nevada Outdoor School has made it a priority to increase the living allowance of the members provided medical health care, if necessary child care, and also occasionally be able to show appreciation to the members with small celebrations. However, the cash match is not intended to be intimidating or to dissuade possible partners of the Nevada Outdoor School AmeriCorps program Nevada Outdoor School will make every effort to assist in finding funding options and is flexible in creating a payment plan for the year.
