Must we always teach our children with books? Let them look at the mountains and the stars up above. Let them look at the beauty of the waters and the trees and flowers on earth. They will then begin to think, and to think is the beginning of a real education.

Nevada Outdoor School's AmeriCorps* State program is in its first year of operation. Currently, the program hosts 7 full-time AmeriCorps members and one half-time member at worthy organizations throughout the greater Winnemucca area. The host sites where members serve include the Friends of the Black Rock/High Rock, Nevada Outdoor School, the American Red Cross, the Winnemucca Domestic Violence Shelter, and Safe Haven Rescue Zoo. These members are individuals who are dedicating a year of their lives to serving others in the community by being environmental stewards and educators. Nevada Outdoor School is excited to begin its partnership with AmeriCorps and is looking forward to strengthening the Winnemucca community through service-learning projects.
