If you spend time outdoors, Outdoor Ethics is for you!

Nevada Outdoor School's Outdoor Ethics Programs

NOS offers Tread Lightly! and Leave No Trace programs and trainer courses.  Both are national nonprofit organizations with a mission to promote responsible outdoor recreation through education and stewardship.  Outdoor Ethics programming challenges participants to shape their own land ethic and evaluate the consequences of their actions in the outdoors.  You will find NOS Outdoor Ethics included in classroom lessons, summer camps and at special events.  Look for our Outdoor Ethics ‘Road Show’ at Reno Motor Sports Expo, Nevada Outdoor Experience, Get Outdoors Nevada Day, Reno and Tahoe Earth Days and other sites and events near you.

Additionally, NOS promotes safe and responsible recreation through hands-on ATV Safety trainings for youth and adults.  NOS offers both ASI (ATV Safety Institute) and OASYREP (Oregon ATV Safety Youth Rider Endorsement Program) courses.

NOS is proud to be a Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics
Accredited Youth Program!

The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is a national organization that protects the outdoors by teaching and inspiring people to enjoy it responsibly. The Leave No Trace Youth Program Accreditation engages youth-serving programs with the essential standards and assessment resources that enhance the impacts of stewardship education for young people who spend time outdoors. As a fully Accredited Youth Program, Nevada Outdoor School demonstrates the highest commitment to providing rural northern Nevada youth with relevant and accessible Leave No Trace education.

Leave No Trace Mission Statement:

Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) is the premier provider of outdoor ethics education in rural Nevada.  We work hard every day through all our programs to inspire people to get outside, learn about, and build connections to the natural world in safe and responsible ways. It is important to us that our outdoor spaces stay healthy and preserved so that they can continue to be enjoyed in the future. It is for this reason that Nevada Outdoor School strives to connect our participants to Nature and ultimately instill a responsible outdoor ethic through Leave No Trace. We whole-heartedly promote Leave No Trace principles on all our field trips, summer camps, community hikes, and outreach events.  After attending a NOS program, our goal is for participants to leave with a love of and appreciation for the outdoors and a desire to be active stewards of the land. We want everyone to leave our programs with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to both individually practice responsible recreation and Leave No Trace principles and to share that knowledge with others.

Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of outdoors by all people, worldwide. Participants of all ages can learn about ethical land use while enjoying the outdoors during fun and informative workshops, hiking, backpacking, snow shoeing, camp-outs, volunteer events, and more. Through responsible recreation we will be able to conserve sensitive resources and ensure that others will be able to enjoy public lands in the future.

We are also proud to partner with TREAD Lightly!

Tread Lightly!, Inc. is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to proactively protect recreation access and opportunities in the outdoors through education and stewardship initiatives. Participants of all ages can learn about ethical land use while enjoying the outdoors during fun and informative workshops, day camps, ATV rides, camp-outs, volunteer events, and more. Through responsible recreation we will be able to balance the needs of people who enjoy outdoor recreation with our need to maintain a healthy environment and ensure that others will be able to enjoy public lands in the future.

ATV/OHV Safety for Youth and Adults!

Nevada Outdoor School offers ASI (ATV Safety Institute) and OASYREP (Oregon ATV Safety Youth Rider Endorsement Program) safety courses to partners and the general public. Additionally, NOS ATV Rider Camp provides youth with the knowledge and skills to be safe and responsible riders.

We partner with Sheriff’s Offices around the state to help spread the message of safe and responsible riding and provide targeted education and outreach at registration events across Nevada!

Look for our ROAD SHOW at an event near you!

We take our fun and customizable Road Show booth around the state to a variety of events such as Reno Motor Sports Expo, Nevada Outdoor Experience, Get Outdoors Nevada Day, Earth Day events and more to talk with people about safe and responsible recreation.  Stop by to play TREADpardy, spin our Wheel of Ethics, make an Outdoor Ethics hang-tag or get information about Leave No Trace, Tread Lightly! and/or OHV Safety.
