NOS Partnered Programs

Since 2017, we have had a NOSome Assistance Agreement with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Elko District to help staff the California Trail Interpretive Center (CTIC)

At CTIC, visitors can experience life size dioramas, original murals, exhibits on the native peoples and productions depicting the trek of the early pioneers.

They can hike on accessible trails, through a wagon encampment and see a Shoshone village.

It is a beautiful educational facility, and a partnership that opens a lot of possibilities for NOS programs!

The Trail Center is open 5 days a week!

We are excited to have Macy Rohr, as a NOS employee, in place as Programs Coordinator for the Trail Center providing field trips and Traveling Trunk classroom visits to Elko County School District students and enhanced visitor interpretive experiences to the general public!

Upcoming Programs:

Want to learn more about the Great Basin, the beautiful place we call home?

Well look no further, NOS has partnered with local experts to bring a community workshop featuring all the best parts of Nevada to YOU!

Join us for a day of learning all about local wildlife in the area with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, local plants and trees with NOS, local history with the California Trail Center and Northeastern Nevada Museum, and more!

There will also be local geologists presenting on the geology of the Great Basin and surrounding areas.

Pack a lunch as we fill you full of knowledge on the Great Basin: for example, did you know that the Great Basin Region has some of the most diverse landscapes and ecosystems?

Come to this FREE workshop to learn even more.

Please remember to dress warm as this event will take place outdoors.

Youth should be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop.

Be sure to pack a lunch and a water bottle.

S'mores and hot chocolate will be provided.

The path of the 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse happens to pass right through northern Nevada!

This rare and extraordinary event will take place Saturday, October 14th.
